SMS Equipment had the opportunity to showcase Komatsu’s D375A-8 and D475A-8 series surface mining dozers on the Mining Now podcast at the 2024 CIM Connect conference that took place in Vancouver this past May, organized by the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum.

Manager of mining equipment technology Dillon McKinnon and product manager Darren Chvojka discussed the key features in the designs of Komatsu’s latest dozers.

The updated customer-driven designs were based on three pillars: improved operator comfort, productivity, and machine durability.

One of the biggest changes to this series of Komatsu dozers is the coming introduction of tele-remote availability.

“The machine platform now is going to be coming to market with a tele-remote available for the machine,” McKinnon said. “Layering into all the technologies that are built into the machine, Komatsu is going to release a remote-controlled option where you’re able to control that machine remotely from an operator’s console located away from the machine.
