Giving back to the communities where we live and work has long been a priority for SMS Equipment. Across our 40+ locations, the communities we engage with are as diverse in population as they are in geography. However, one thing rings true no matter the region: people are in need, and that need is growing.
According to the United Way Centraide Canada, 35,000 Canadians are homeless on any given night. Food Banks Canada reports there were almost 2 million visits to food banks across Canada this past March, up 32 per cent over March 2022 and a whopping 78.5 per cent compared to March 2019. Community agencies are working tirelessly to meet the increased need of our vulnerable populations.
That’s why SMS Equipment is committing funds to helping end the cycle of poverty among our communities in two key areas: homelessness and food insecurity. On November 15, National Philanthropy Day, we are committing $100,000 to local emergency shelters and food banks across Canada and Alaska.
